Land Defenders in the news, from Vancouver to Chile
Dearest readers,
I wanted to share a couple of pieces I’ve worked on lately, which I posted to the Vancouver Media Co-op.
The first is called At the Roots of Mapuche Resistance, it’s a bit of a primer on Mapuche struggles against the Chilean state and transnational corporations, for everyone out there trying to get their head around the ongoing hunger strike. It also looks (albeit briefly) at Canada’s role in Chile. There’s a global day of action scheduled tomorrow, I’m planning to cover the event in Vancouver.
I was also inspired to write a piece about the proposed Mt. Milligan mine in Northern BC. This article is an effort to broaden awareness among folks in occupied BC about mining struggles beyond the very important Fish Lake/Prosperity Mine fight near Williams Lake.
Finally, an angry blog post (I tried to make it a story, and realized that ignoring my rage would be a total failure) about the new “Goldcorp Arts Centre” in the Woodward’s building in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side.
